THE COUNTY OF CUMBRIA (VARIOUS ROADS IN THE EDEN AREA)
(TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF THROUGH TRAFFIC) (NO.1) ORDER 2018
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to enable Cumbria Highways to carry out surface dressing works (“the Works”), the County Council of Cumbria intends to make an Order the effect of which is to prohibit any vehicle from proceeding along the lengths of road specified in the attached Schedule.
Suitable diversion routes will be indicated on site by the display of relevant traffic signs as and when the temporary closures are in force.
Phased works will not necessarily be done in numerical order.
Cumbria Highways will ensure that local residents and the general public are informed of which roads are to be closed and when, nearer the time.
A way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times.
Nothing in the Order to which this notice relates shall:
- Apply to emergency service vehicles, or vehicles being used by statutory undertakers in the performance of their duties; and
- Apply to anything done with the permission or at the direction of a police constable in uniform; and
- Have the effect of preventing at any time access for pedestrians to any premises situated on or adjacent to the roads, or to any other premises accessible for pedestrians from, and only from the roads; and
- Apply to vehicles being used in connection with the Works.

The Order will come into operation on 24 April 2018 and may continue in force for a period of up to eighteen months from that date as and when the relevant traffic signs are displayed, although it is anticipated that it will only be required for approx. 3 months in total.

EXTENT OF RESTRICTIONS AND ALTERNATIVE ROUTES
From its junction with the C3038, extending in an overall southerly direction for approx.2km.
Alternative Route: via the unrestricted sections of the A5091, A592 (Rheged) and A66.
From its junction with the A5091 (Aira Force), extending in a predominantly south easterly direction for approx. 3.6km to its junction with U3456 (Glenridding).
From its junction with U3458 (Patterdale), extending in an overall southerly direction for approx.3km to its junction with U3459 (Hartsop).
From its junction with U3459 (Hartsop), extending in a southerly direction for approx.5.3km to its junction with the C5001 (Kirkstone Pass).
Alternative Route for 2, 3 and 4 above: via the unrestricted sections of the A592, A5091, A66 (Keswick), A591 (Windermere) and A593.
- U3221 Range Road, Warcop – Approx duration ½ day
From its junction with the U3220, extending in a predominantly southerly direction for approx.5.6km to its junction with the A66.
Alternative Route: via the U3220, B6542 and A66.
- C1036 Hutton-in-the-Forest to Ivegill – Approx duration 1day
From its junction with the B5305, extending in a north westerly direction for approx.8.8km to its junction with the C3010.
Alternative Route: via the unrestricted section of the B5305, C3012, C1037, and C3010.
- U3220 Coupland Beck to Sandford Thorn – Approx duration ½ day
From its junction with the U3220 (Toll Bar Cottage), extending in a southerly then south easterly direction for approximately 700m.
There is no suitable alternative route available for vehicles.
